Getting a tooth extracted typically involves the following steps:

  • Anesthesia: Your dentist will numb the area around the tooth to be extracted with a local anesthetic.
  • Tooth extraction: The dentist will use special tools to loosen the tooth and then remove it from the socket.
  • Bleeding control: After the tooth is extracted, gauze will be placed over the socket to control bleeding.
  • Pain management: You may feel some discomfort and swelling after the procedure, but over-the-counter pain medication and ice can help manage these symptoms.
